About

I'm Jason Jeffers. I build and run infrastructure, at work and at home, and this is where I write down what I learn.

My homelab is small enough to fit in a closet and complicated enough to teach me something every week: a Proxmox cluster, UniFi networking, a couple of NAS boxes, Home Assistant, and Cloudflare in front of anything that needs to be reached from outside.

Lately I run it the way I'd want a production environment run. Everything is documented in Git, secrets live in a vault, changes have a rollback plan, and an AI agent does a lot of the hands-on operations work under rules I set. Some of what I write here is about how that partnership works, and where it doesn't.

What you'll find here

  • Build notes: how something was set up, with the parts that went wrong left in.
  • Reviews of tools and services after living with them, not after unboxing them.
  • Opinions about networking, identity, and operations that I'm willing to be argued out of.
